In the Department of International Trade and Business, the process of assessing and evaluating student academic achievement is conducted in accordance with the principles set forth by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the Assessment and Evaluation Directive adopted by the Isparta University of Applied Sciences Senate. Assessment and evaluation practices are structured to be in alignment with the program's learning outcomes and are integrated with the university's quality assurance system.
The assessment tools (e.g., midterm exams, quizzes, projects, assignments, and final exams) and evaluation criteria to be used in all courses are announced to students at the beginning of each semester by faculty members via the ISUBU ECTS Program and Course Information Package System. The same information is also made accessible through the Student Information System (SIS). This transparent structure enhances students' confidence in the examination system and contributes to their ability to manage their academic progress more consciously.
Midterm and end-of-term exam results are announced by faculty members on the system, and students who are unsuccessful are granted the right to take a make-up examination. A make-up exam is organized for students who cannot attend a midterm exam, provided they submit a valid excuse. Furthermore, when students receive unexpected grades, they can request a re-evaluation of their exams by submitting an appeal. These appeals are reviewed by the relevant faculty member, and the results are communicated to the students promptly.
To ensure that the assessment and evaluation process is conducted in a fair, transparent, measurable, and improvable manner, mechanisms such as common exams, course coordinatorships, and academic advising are actively utilized. Additionally, departmental boards and faculty education commissions periodically conduct assessment and evaluation analyses, and improvement initiatives are planned based on feedback obtained from student satisfaction surveys.
Within the scope of digitalization, systems such as the ISUBU Distance Education Platform are effectively used for exam and assignment processes, ensuring traceability and academic integrity. In addition, the Social Transcript initiative is supported to document students' achievements in extracurricular social and cultural activities.
In our department, assessment and evaluation processes are considered not merely as a means for grading, but also as a tool for monitoring and improving student development. These processes are maintained with an approach that is integrated into the quality assurance system and aims for continuous improvement.
